About Southern Hospice Group
Martlets is part of Southern Hospice Group

Who are Southern Hospice Group?
Last year we announced that Martlets would be merging with Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House Hospices to create one single hospice group. To allow us to complete some legal and administrative functions, we’ve needed to identify a new name for the group: Southern Hospice Group.
Together, we support children, young people and adults who have life-limiting conditions which will significantly shorten their lives. We help those we care for, and their loved ones, to make the most of the precious time they have left together. Our expert palliative services support local communities across Sussex and South East Hampshire – at our hospice sites and in people’s homes.
Why has Southern Hospice Group been created?
Southern Hospice Group was formed in 2024 when all three hospices merged. By combining the strengths and expertise of three hospices, the organisations hope to improve access to specialist palliative and end of life care, achieve greater efficiency, and ultimately benefit patients, families, staff and the wider communities. Our reasons for merging are:
- Outstanding patient care: We bring together a wealth of specialist clinical experience, talent and resources to enhance the level of care provided to our patients, and to provide consistency of care across the catchment areas.
- Community impact: We’re committed to maintaining an active role in the community and contributing to its well-being. We aim to be a trusted partner in supporting individuals and families during their most challenging times.
- Improved sustainability: The integration of resources and streamlined processes will improve operational and financial efficiency, allowing us to allocate more resources to patient care.

Frequently asked questions

My priority as Chief Executive will be to ensure the delivery of the merger business plan, building on the excellent work that’s taken place so far and bringing together two teams who not only share extensive knowledge and experience, but who also share a passion and vision for exceptional palliative and end-of-life care in our communities.
