This year has been particularly difficult for those who have gone through a bereavement, especially if they have been unable to say goodbye or attend a funeral.

Because of you, we have been able to fund and adapt our care for changing times. Jane Cato, Martlets’ counselling and bereavement services manager, explains:

“Video contact online has been a lifeline for so many families going through a bereavement this year.

I counselled a family member recently, who wasn’t able to travel to England due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. We talked gently and quietly about her father, about his life and how very sad it was that he died. She told me how she was able to see her father on our ward via video and play him his favourite music, thanks to Martlets’ nurses setting up video calling. These were precious moments which gave her great comfort.”

Martlets will keep caring for people with terminal illness and their loved ones, this festive season and beyond. But we can only do this with your support.

The festive season can feel particularly poignant if you have lost a loved one.

We are here to support our community and we know how important it is at this special time of year to take time to remember who and what makes life so precious.

Although we can’t gather together this year, we would like to invite you to join us at our free online Light up a Life service.

This free service will be shown on our social media, it is not faith-led and is open to people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
