#Martlets36days: Lesley, Western Rd Shop Manager

Lesley has been working for Martlets for just over a year, having had a career in the retail sector that saw her as a branch manager of 3 branches of Peacocks for 13 years. She’s now putting her expertise to good use as the manager of the hospice’s new Western Road store, which is in the heart of the city centre, just opposite Argos.

With its quirky, on-trend pieces that reflect the city’s unique vibe, the new Martlets store is an exciting and vibrant place to work.

“I enjoy working for Martlets, there’s a lot of happiness here and the shops are a real part of the local community – local people volunteer in the shops and local people buy from them. It’s been great getting to know all our customers.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year for the shops with tinsel on the trees, pretty white fairy lights and Christmas music. Everyone’s excited and are looking for that one perfect present to buy their loved ones. We often have ladies in here who are busily looking for a sparkly party dress or need some help with styling. Whatever they want we’ll do our best to help them so that they leave here feeling fabulous!

This year we’ve got some gorgeous Betty Boyns mugs, bags, tea-towels and coasters which feature local Brighton scenes. They’re exclusive to Martlets and I think they’ll make brilliant gifts. There’s also some nearly new books and DVDs to watch if there’s not much on the TV this year!

Supporting Martlets by shopping in our stores is a wonderful thing to do at Christmas, there are some fantastic buys and you know that your money is directly helping local people and their families.”
