This Thursday is National Reading Day.
So to celebrate, we took a trip to two of our shops – London Road and Western Road – to check out their book collections. We found some great reads there, including a number of brilliant bestsellers. Here are four that caught our eye.
You can get books in our shops for the bargain price of 50p each.
1. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Paula Hawkin’s debut novel is set in a London commuter town, and centres around the lives of Rachel, Anna and Megan. Released to acclaim, the book was soon adapted into a film of the same name.
2. The Miniaturist by Jesse Burton
There was a while when you couldn’t walk into a bookshop without seeing this as soon as you walked in. It’s no wonder. This brilliant book tells the story of Nella Ortman, who begins to worry that a miniaturist is predicting or controlling her fate.
3. Paper Towns by John Green
Looking for something else to read this National Reading Day? We found a copy of John Green’s 2008 young adult masterpiece – Paper Towns. When the mysterious Margo Roth Spielman disappears, her neighbour Quentin sets out to find her. And if you enjoy it, you can also check out the film adaptation of the same name, starring Cara Delevingne.
4. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Also the subject of a film adaptation, the Help tells the story of the mostly African-American employees of a white family in 1960s Mississippi.
Do you have any bestsellers you could donate to our shops? Please do pop in. And make sure you join our gift-aid scheme too – it makes your donations go 25% further.
