We Are Hospice Care: Rebekka

In celebration of Hospice Care Week, we’re recognising the many faces of Hospice Care. Today Rebekka shares why she volunteers with us.

“I was already volunteering at a charity bookshop, but I really wanted to expand my retail knowledge into a different sector. A mate of mine who had worked at the Martlets shop in Church Street had really enjoyed herself, so I thought that it would be a good opportunity to develop my retail skills and I offered to help.

It’s a varied role and I’ve learned a lot that I know will help me in my career. I work on the till, sort the clothes and bric-a-brac, arrange displays and make plenty of tea and coffee!

It’s all useful practical experience that will look great on my CV, whilst also helping a fantastic local charity.

What has amazed me is the co-ordination of the training, which is second to none; it really prepares you for a retail environment.

The attention to detail in the shops is amazing, each shop has a distinctly unique personality.

Everyone has been so very friendly and it’s such a lovely place to work. I’d encourage any of my friends to volunteer here because it really is a delightful role and it’s such a dynamic cause to be a part of.”

Twenty-five-year-old Rebekka volunteers once a week at the Martlets Church Street shop.
