Martlets FC vs. HPS Newhaven

Martlets FC vs. HPS Newhaven

Don’t miss your chance to see Martlets FC play HPS Newhaven, in a match that will raise funds for life-changing hospice care. HPS have been long-term supporters of Martlets since their manager Matt Reed was cared for at the Hospice during his last days, in 2019.

Martlets FC will play HPS Newhaven on Friday 2 February at Newhaven Football Club, 7.30pm kick off. It is going to be an exciting match with lots of great prizes up for grabs in the raffle and silent auction.

Remembering Matt

Andy Gander, showroom manager at HPS Newhaven, remembers Matt and explains why HPS continues to support Martlets:

“The reason Martlets is dear to our hearts is that back in 2019 our Matt Reed unfortunately had bowel cancer. It all happened very quickly and was such a shock. He was only 38 when he died and had a wife and family. Matt was a great guy – very fair, outgoing, good at his job and very personable. Unfortunately, we went away for a manager’s meeting and he was taken ill and never returned to work. Matt spent his last days on Martlets inpatient unit and the staff there were amazing. They helped him and his family during that difficult time and so we wanted to support Martlets as a thank you and to help other local people.

I remember one lovely thing Martlets helped him do was to have a summer day in Hove Park when close family and friends could come down to see him. It was in the latter stages of his illness but the team at Martlets supported him to make sure he could do this outing as he was so important to him. It was really touching and it gave everyone who cared about him a chance to go and spend some time in his company.”
