Grief Cafe

Being bereaved can be a time of feeling isolated in your grief.
We look forward to welcoming you to the new Grief Cafes in Hove and Saltdean, and hope the cafe will become a welcome monthly ritual for you to sit with a coffee and connect with others who will understand something of your grief. It can be helpful to know you are part of a community of others who have become bereaved and are finding their way back into life again.
Who can attend?
The cafe is open to anyone over 18 whose loved one died under our care.
Your grief journey is unique and there are no rules to how and when and how you might access support. You will always be welcomed, whatever stage you are at in your grief.
How do I sign up?
There is no need to book, just show up. There's no cost for the Grief Cafe, but donations are welcomed.

The cafe overlooks Saltdean beach, has two terraces and serves coffees and pastries. Although open to the public, we will have a designated table to ourselves and private access to one of the terraces.
What can you expect to get out of it if you go?
We will gather, and the facilitator will explain what the group is for, giving you a few ground rules to keep you safe. You will never be expected to share anything if it feels uncomfortable and it may be that initially you come and simply hear the stories of others for a few sessions first. There will be a simple activity to encourage you to express feelings around aspects of grieving.
We hope that by coming along you:
- Find a safe place to express feelings around your loss, alongside validation of those feelings.
- Have an opportunity to understand more about the grieving process.
- Learn some fundamental skills for navigating loss.
- Find a safe, supportive space to learn coping skills and find community.
- Explore ways to rebuild your life after a death.
- Make new friends.
