Right now, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, our hard-working health care teams are delivering vital care throughout our community day and night.

We’ve had to change the way we deliver care on our inpatient unit (IPU) and in our community, to ensure we keep people safe. We know our patients need us more than ever and we are doing all we can to keep Martlets caring so we’ve had to adapt to a new way of working.

People from across our organisation are retraining; like Caroline who has gone back into nursing on the IPU; our community nursing teams have had to adjust to delivering some of their care through video calling technology to keep patients safe in their own homes and all of our clinical teams are working with extra Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) .

Martlets can only keep providing this essential care with the support of our community.

We are delighted that the government is providing extra funding for hospices throughout the UK but, social distancing measures mean fundraising events are cancelled for the foreseeable and shops closed until they are safe to reopen. We rely on the generosity of local people for almost all of our funding, so these changes bring significant challenge.

We have been heartened to see our community pull together, from local businesses donating PPE to our clinical teams, to supporters setting up challenges to fundraise for us at home and to everybody who has helped keep Martlets caring by donating to our appeal. Everybody at Martlets is grateful for the support our community have given to us. But we do not know when the lockdown will ease, or how long we will have to work in this new way and so we still need support.

We know we’re asking when things are hard for everyone, but giving a gift of £20, or whatever you can afford, means Martlets will keep caring for people across our community who have a terminal illness throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

We are Martlets and we’re proud to be here for everyone in Brighton, Hove and the Havens who needs our support.

Please donate today and help Martlets keep caring.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Martlets to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Martlets we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Martlets to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Martlets will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Martlets receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
