5 ways you can fundraise for us whilst staying at home

Right now we are seeing an increase in the number of calls coming into our phone hub from patients, carers and GPs across our region.

We’re ensuring that a specialist team is on hand to answer questions and offer advice and support, 24 hours a day. As you can imagine, being isolated when facing a life-limiting illness means that keeping in touch over the phone is crucial.

Supporting us with your own fundraiser will help ensure that all our patients and their loved ones have access to the support they need, whenever they need it.

We rely on the generosity of local people for almost all our funding, so cancelling our events is a significant challenge for us. That’s why we wanted to ask if you would consider supporting Martlets with an online fundraiser.

While you may not be able to run a marathon, trek the Sahara, or even hold a bake sale right now, there are plenty of ways you can make a difference without leaving the house! Here are some suggestions, though feel free to come up with your own creative ideas.

Virtual celebrations

It’s tough not being able to see your loved ones, especially if you have an upcoming celebration like a birthday. However, you can mark these special occasions by fundraising for Martlets using a JustGiving page or Facebook fundraiser.

Online get togethers

Turn your next online meetup with friends or family into a virtual fundraiser. Set up a quiz or games night and ask your loved ones to donate their ‘entrance fee’ to Martlets.

Challenge yourself

Why not set yourself an at-home fitness challenge? You could create an obstacle course in the garden, do a ’keepyuppy’ challenge, or run a marathon as 26.2 miles over the course of a month. Set yourself a challenge and ask your friends and family to sponsor you.

Lop your locks for lockdown

If you have a set of hair clippers, a mirror, and the bravery to do something bold, you could shave your head or give someone you’re living with (who’s up for a challenge) a ‘creative’ new do. You could even go Martlets pink or blue with a colour spray or dye, then video or livestream it as it happens and ask friends and family to support you by making a donation

Get crafty

Do you have a crafty skill or are you keen to hone a new creative talent? Flex your crafting muscles to help raise money for Martlets. You can try a sponsored crafting challenge like a 12 hour craftathon or creating as many items as you can in an hour. Or simply create some new items you could donate to us once our shops are back open for business.

Whatever you decide to do #TeamMartlets is still here to support you.
