Festive lights delight for Martlets

Jackie and Paul Clifford have been lighting up Chorley Avenue in Saltdean with festive cheer for 15 years.

The couple put on their seasonal display in aid of Martlets. During that time, they have raised an incredible £5,000 to help provide life-changing hospice care in Brighton, Hove and neighbouring areas.

Each year, Jackie and Paul invite friends and neighbours to drop some coins in a collecting tin and spread some Christmas kindness to local people and their families living with the effects of terminal illness.

The lights go up on 1st December until 6th January and visitors include local Beaver/Cubs and Brownie’s Groups.  Paul also dresses up as Father Christmas on some evenings which is always popular with the local children.

Lights to look out for

Jackie commented

“This really is something we look forward to doing every year as we love seeing people’s smiles as we light up the street with a bit of Christmas cheer.  Every year we add something extra and people really do notice – we couldn’t stop doing this now even if we wanted to!

We know local children and their families really look out for our festive lights going on and are always so kind and supportive and generous in their support of Martlets.

This year is all the more important to us as my sister-in-law was cared for by Martlets and they helped us so much.  To us this is what the Christmas spirit is all about.”
