Martlets’ Choir sing the songs of the Snails at latest concert

The Martlets Good Vibrations Choir held their latest concert on Friday 23 November at St Georges’ Church. Their winter concert was themed around #BeMoreSnail, following our Snailspace campaign this autumn.

Made up of 50 Martlets patients, family members, staff and volunteers, the choir is under the musical direction of local singer and voice coach Aneesa Chaudhry. They were also joined for several songs by special guests St Luke’s Parents Choir, who performed with their children.

The evening opened with relaxing #BeMoreSnail activities and soothing lights and calming music filled the church whilst attendees were offered hand massages, planting sessions, home-made food and, of course, a chance to purchase our sought-after Snail memorabilia!

The performance began with special guest Ruth Summers, Founder of Dao Natural Health, who led the audience in a therapeutic sound bath using gentle instruction, sounds and gongs. She invited the audience to stay in their seats or to lie on the floor wrapped in blankets, and meditate. This was followed by a tranquil Tai Chi routine involving deep breathing with flowing movements.

The Martlets Good Vibrations choir then performed a variety of old and new songs from ‘Whisper of Angels’ by Amici to ‘Shosholoza’ (Zimbabwean folk song) to ‘Caravan of Love’ by Jasper and Isley, as well as the #BeMoreSnail theme, ‘Feelin’ Groovy’.

Audience member Katie Hook commented:

“This was the first Martlets Choir event I have been to and I was blown away! The songs they chose were fantastic! There was something for everyone and you couldn’t help singing along. My sister and her family have been following the Snails and would love this too so I’ll be bringing them with me next time.”

Ann Borg, the choir’s co-ordinator, concluded:

“The night was a roaring #BeMoreSnail success, thoroughly enjoyed by all and we raised a record-breaking total of £5k for this event!”
