Supporting those who’ve lost this father’s day

Father’s day can be a difficult time for anyone who’s experienced the loss of their father. Jane, our counselling and bereavement services manager blogs.

As Father’s Day approaches I think about all of the amazing patients and families and friends who we have met. And I think of the daughters and sons whose father have sadly died.

Some of you are big grown-up adult children and may potentially be parents yourselves and there may be moments when the small child inside you longs for your Dad.

This is such a natural and normal thing to be feeling.

For many people fathers provide protection and safety, fun and adventures and are always there…when someone dies not only do you feel the pain and loss of grief but also people can feel like their ‘Rock’ has gone…Dad is no longer around.

Other people who may have had a difficult relationships with their fathers grieve strongly too…for the Dad who has died and for the father they never had. This can be confusing at times and again is a natural and normal response. It is important to remember that everyone grieves differently and to know that what you feel is real and important.

Here at Martlets we will be thinking of you all on Fathers Day this year and along with the sadness we hope you can recall a memory that brings a fond smile to your face.
